Upgrading Infrastructure PDF Print E-mail

Much of the phone and electrical utility wiring serving our City is well over 50 years old, and largely obsolete in today's world. Even in a down economy, we have to plan for the future. We cannot afford to ignore our infrastructure needs. I will be talking about this subject during the entire time of the campaign, and my plan for upgrading this infrastructure will be coming soon.

Krasne MTA testimony in LA TimesAs for the LA Metro's plans for running the subway to the sea under Beverly Hills High School, my position could not be clearer. I went to an MTA hearing in December with BHUSD President Lisa Korbatov and a group of our School District leaders to speak out forcefully against this travesty. My remarks were covered by the LA Times, but my take away from this hearing was that the MTA had already made up their mind.

I am committed to Lisa and the rest of the BHUSD Board to fight this change in the original routing plan as far into the legal process as necessary to protect the High School. We on the City Council have to reach out and stand hand-in-hand with our colleagues on the School Board and the residents on this issue. Whatever is required, from legal action to legislative lobbying in Sacramento, we must stand united in opposition as a community.

My detailed plan for stopping this routing under BHHS will follow within the next two weeks. We must have a smart, concrete plan thought out ahead of time. However, during our negotiations with the MTA, nothing should be taken off the table, from CEQA litigation to local control issues.
